Strong lands local standout

CardinalSports.com Devante Parker, a big-time rising prospect at wide receiver for the class of 2011 from Ballard H.S. (Louisville, Ky.), had early offers from Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana. The 6-2, 180-pound prospect chose one of the local programs Wednesday, giving a verbal commitment to Louisville and new head coach Charlie Strong.
Parker, whose father Anthony Shelman was a star running back at Louisville, had 1,439 reception yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior this past season. Parker was also hearing from Notre Dame, Ohio State and Miami (Fla.) "I've liked Louisville since I was little," Parker told Cardinalsports.com. "I just wanted to be a part of the program and do my best there."
