Rivals100 safety will visit
The Tigers are very interested in several highly-talented safeties in the Class of 2011 and almost all of them are out of state prospects. One of them, Wayne Lyons, is an early member of the Rivals100.
Lyons plans on visiting Baton Rouge over the summer and that's a good sign for the Tigers.
The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back from Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard has done a good job of playing things close to the vest thus far, and if he has any favorites he sure hasn't hinted at it. With nearly 50 offers Lyons is one of the top safety recruits in the nation, as evidenced by his new Rivals.com rankings -- the No. 4 safety and No. 85 prospect nationally.
LSU won't be the only school Lyons visits this summer, as TigerBait.com learned on Friday.
"I've got one big camp -- the National 7-on-7 camp in Alabama," Lyons said. "We're planning on visiting some schools when I go down there for that.
"I know I'll be visiting Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. On the way back I'm going to visit Florida and Florida State, probably."
Lyons said the last trip he made was to Ohio State for the Buckeyes' spring game. He said that was a positive experience and Ohio State is another school he is still keeping in mind.
He hasn't made any progress in terms of trimming his list, though by his own admission he wasn't planning on having that done by now. After this round of trips, which should be his only college visits for the summer, he should be ready to narrow things down.
"I'm actually hoping to be able to set up my (five) official visits soon," he said.
Lyons plans on taking those official visits during his senior season at Dillard so he has plenty of time to make his decision whenever he wants later in the year or closer to National Signing Day.
The talented safety has been in contact with many of the schools that have offered him and that includes LSU. What is the extent of the Tigers' relationship with him?
"LSU is one of the schools that's in the hunt," he explained.
"Coach (Billy) Gonzales actually just e-mailed me a couple of minutes ago. He's just keeping in touch and asking me if I'm going to their camp. I think I'm just going to be there for the unofficial (visit), though."
Though Lyons doesn't plan on taking any other college trips after he hits Florida and Florida State on the way home he did say he might attend the FBU Top Gun camp later in the summer.
