Smith on the comeback trail
Shaun Smith has spent the better part of two years recovering from multiple hip surgeries that have plagued him since before his senior season at Noxubee County (Miss.).
After a redshirt season at Mississippi State last year Smith appears poised make an impact on the 2010-11 squad. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard has spent this summer rehabbing and getting back in shape in preparation for the upcoming year.
"Workouts are going real good," Smith said. "I'm trying to get my weight up so I've been going real hard in the weight room. As far as my hip, I'm still doing little stuff in rehab. The main thing for me now is to get in shape and get my legs back under me. Each day when we play I feel less pain. Afterwards it's kind of sore but that's just something I'll have to break through."
Smith said that his weight is 204-pounds currently but wants to be at 210-pounds by the time the season tips off. He estimates that his hip is around 75-percent healthy right now but should be good to go by November.
