Red Raiders offer Waco corner
Texas Tech has a new defensive back on their radar in the form of Waco (Texas) cornerback Will Hines. The Red Raiders recently visited Hines in Waco and left him with an offer to join their 2012 class.
"Yes, sir. Texas Tech and Notre Dame both came down to see me," Hines said. "They're both great programs and I'm definitely interested in learning more about them. Texas Tech gave me an offer while they were here."
Hines indicated that he's somewhat familiar with the Red Raiders' program, although he's yet to visit Lubbock.
"I haven't been up there yet, but I've been watching them for a while," he said. "They've had some good teams lately and I know Coach Tuberville is known for what he does on defense, so they've got some of my attention."
The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder said that he's hearing the most from Baylor, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Cal, Notre Dame, and Texas Tech right now. He doesn't have any other visits planned for the remainder of the spring, but he does plan on hitting the camp circuit this summer.
With more than a few offers coming from outside the state of Texas, Hines said that he's become comfortable with the thought of playing away from home.
"Distance doesn't really matter to me. I've got a lot of good options, so if I want to play closer to home I'll be able to. If I want to get away, then I think I'll have the chance to do that too. Distance won't really be a part of my decision."
Chad Glasgow made the trip to Waco to see Hines, and although it was the pair's first meeting, they seemed to have gotten of on the right foot.
"That was the first time I had gotten to meet Coach Glasgow and we got along well. He was a really cool guy and I've heard about how intense he is," he said. "I know he's just taking over there at Tech so he's got some big plans for their defense and he said that he wanted me to be a part of it. He seemed like a guy that would take care of his players as more than just athletes. I'll be interested to learn more about what they've got going on there."
Hines currently holds offers from Baylor, North Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Tulsa.
