Being that I really am a positive person, let's start with a hip hip hooray for James Rodgers. Man I love that kid.
Coming back from that devastating of a knee injury in less than a year is a true testament to his work ethic and determination. When he came down with his first big catch during that first drive, I felt so happy for him.
Keeping with the positives, it was also good to see Joe Halahuni back in the fold, in addition to Markus Wheaton and Jordan Bishop making some big grabs. The receivers are getting back in their groove and Coach Brennan has to be happy.
Sean Mannion did OK for his first start although, a rookie mistake or two were costly. His future is bright once he's able to settle down. The red zone offense will be better once he's able to gain a little more patience and wait a half second more for a receiver to make a break and get open. But that will come with experience and confidence.
As pathetic as the running game is at the moment, I thought that Jovan Stevenson looked pretty good in the second half. The big upside for him is that when he see's the hole, he goes without tap dancing around.
88 yards rushing is probably not going to get it done in the PAC 12 with Coach Riley's offense. It could get scary as defenses try to pin their ears back and try to stop the Beavers passing game.
At the end of the day the Beavers need to score more than 12 offensive points. The UCLA defense isn't that good, so that makes it doubly bad. Missed opportunities and mistakes cost them. Hopefully we see improvement in the weeks ahead.
