Looking back to Alabama
Vanderbilt suffered its second-straight loss, falling 34-0 to Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. The biggest culprit: third down conversions on both sides of the ball. The Commodores played well defensively for first and second down, but allowed the Crimson Tide to convert 12-of-17 chances on third downs, including all five of their touchdowns.
The fact that VU went 1-for-10 against what might be the nation's best defense was no surprise. Vandy entered the game ranked 119th of 120 teams in converting third downs, and dropped to last after Saturday.
It was the Commodores' second-straight game of offensive struggles. Vandy has not scored a touchdown in its last nine quarters, and managed just a field goal against South Carolina two weeks ago.
