On paper it looks bad for the Beavers, but the defense played inspired football led by this week's Giant Killer Lance Mitchell. Perhaps even more impressive is that Mitchell played so well even while dealing with the pain of an abdominal muscle injury that has limited his action throughout the season.
The defensive backs played extremely well given they were playing the top quarterback in the nation. The Beavers only gave up 207 yards through the air, well below the Cardinals season average of 290 yards passing.
Jordan Poyer, Rashaad Reynolds and Anthony Watkins also had big days for the Beaver defensive backfield totaling 32 tackles on the day.
The Cardinal is known to have a very big and physical offensive line and the Beavers struggled to contain their powerful run game. True freshman defensive end Dylan Wynn earned his second MVP honor in two weeks with five tackles. Scott Crichton was right behind him with four tackles.
Linebackers were led by Michael Doctor who intercepted Andrew Luck, which propelled him over Rueben Robinson and Cam Collins for MVP honors.
