Southward set to visit

The upcoming weekend looks to be another big recruiting weekend for the Ohio State football program. Some of the top junior prospects in Ohio are expected as well as some outstanding senior prospects from outside the state of Ohio. One of the key visitors will be Lakeland (Fla.) wide receiver Ricquan Southward. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect committed to Miami (FL) last week but is still going through with his official visit to Columbus.
"I'm just keeping an open mind and going up there to check out the facilities before I make a final decision," said Southward. "I haven't talked to the coaches yet but I'm supposed to call them tomorrow to tell them when my flight is and everything. I'm really just looking forward to seeing their facilities and how their program works up there."
Southward had planned on visiting Ohio State for a few weeks now after the Buckeyes extended a scholarship offer. Despite his status as a committed prospect, there could be another visit or two on the horizon.
"I'm going to take visits to some of the colleges that want me to come up," he explained. "I'm just going to go around and take a couple of visits; I want to keep an open mind for a while, just in case I might like it better somewhere else. Besides Ohio State, I think Florida wants me to go check them out next week but that's all I know of right now."
The Gators haven't extended an offer yet to Southward, who says things have slowed down a bit since issuing his verbal commitment. Southward added that if things don't pick back up, he will probably shut the process down.
"Since I visited Miami, I really haven't got a whole lot more phone calls except from Ohio State and Florida," he explained. "If I don't get any phone calls after (those two visits), I'll just sit down and talk things over with my Mom and make a final decision."
On the field, Southward and Lakeland are still rolling with a perfect record.
"We're still undefeated, we're 10-0," he said. "We won the district championship last week. It was more of a running game than a passing game so I did a lot of blocking."
