Change in schools not changing much for Shumpert
Ashton Shumpert has made the move from Tupelo, Miss., to nearby Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton.
However, the change in locales has done nothing to cool colleges' pursuit of the 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete/running back.
Shumpert has picked up offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss, and those two programs _ along with Alabama _ appear to be the early favorites for his services. Shumpert recently attended a junior day at Ole Miss and liked what he heard.
"I plan on checking the staff out since they're all new," Shumpert said, adding that he's looking for a program that has "some really good linemen and a school that has a good running game."
Shumpert said he's in no hurry to make a decision, adding that he's focused more on getting faster on the field than he is on making a quick choice.
"I plan on going through the process," Shumpert said.
Shumpert said he's not concerned with where other heralded running back prospects plan to sign. In fact, Shumpert said he and fellow Mississippian Kailo Moore have talked about teaming up at the next level, a statement Moore affirmed.
"I think we'd be a good matchup together," Moore said. "Once he comes in and just beats the defense down, then I'll come in with that quick, explosive speed. I believe that me and him will be able to score a lot of points together."
