V-Cast: Countdown to Green and White Game
EAST LANSING - The Michigan State football team is in the final week of spring practice and the Spartans spent Tuesday preparing for this Saturday's annual green and white game.
Redshirt freshman Connor Cook continues to take most of the first and second string reps at quarterback with Andrew Maxwell out of action the remainder of spring.
Cook was 15-of-34 with 144 yards passing in Michigan State's second controlled scrimmage last Saturday. The scrimmage was won by the offense on a field goal off the capable foot of senior Dan Conroy. That field goal was set up by a fourth-down catch by A.J. Sims.
Sims has been one of a select number of wide receivers who has stayed healthy during spring ball. Injuries at quarterback and receiver this spring will likely lead to a heavy dose of the run game during the green and white game.
The Michigan State rush offense is putting up better numbers this spring than they have either of the five previous spring sessions of the Dantonio era. Does that indicate that the Spartans are on their way to the run-pass balance that has long been sought by Dantonio and his staff.
