Column: FSU's record doesn't tell the whole story


It's hard to fathom but a 10-2 regular season and potential conference championship isn't going to generate much buzz for Seminole fans. If it did tickets to this weekend's ACC Championship game wouldn't be going for $3 on StubHub.


Current director of football operations for the Miami Dolphins and former Super Bowl winning coach Bill Parcells is often credited for the phrase "You are what your record says you are." Sorry coach Parcells but in the case of Florida State in 2012 you are dead wrong.


You simply can't look at a win-loss record in a vacuum and ignore the circumstances surrounding that record. There was a good reason why nobody was gave Louisville any credit when the Cardinals jumped out to a 9-0 start. Louisville played a horrible schedule and squeaked out a couple narrow wins against below average competition. As such, most observers knew that Louisville was not what its record said it was. The Cardinals have since lost two straight and are currently unranked in the AP Poll.
