Freshmen getting a leg up by enrolling early
In January, the Bulldogs got a little bit more new blood when six of their freshmen planning to sign with them opted to enroll early rather than coast through their final semester of high school.
By showing up early, the six freshmen were handed a chance to go through spring practice and adjust to life in Athens months before the rest of the freshman class arrives to campus throughout the summer.
Though the likes of Tony Wilson will move to Athens this weekend and NaDerris Ward heading to Athens in early July, Matthew Stafford, Asher Allen, Kris Durham, Ricardo Crawford and Kevin Perez got to compete for playing time at their respective positions during spring practice, something Georgia head coach Mark Richt likes to see happen.
The trend of players enrolling early isn't stopping with the signing class of 2006. Next January, offensive tackles Tanner Strickland and Trinton Sturdivant, who have committed to sign with Georgia in February of 2007, plan to enroll early.
