Minnesota AAU weekend review
Over the weekend some top tournament area teams participated in the NY2LA Invitational in Milwaukee. Solid weekends were had by Santino Clay of Richfield, Noah Dahlman from Braham and Matt Janning as far as the 17s go. At the 16s level, the Pulley White team won their tournament and excellent weekends were had by Carrington Tankson of Osseo and Fritz Waldvogel from St. Thomas Academy. In the Breakdown Summer Showcase Northern event, Duluth East won as Sean Mayberry and Ryan Shea played big.
Tankson and Waldvogel have had huge spring and summers playing with Will Braziel's White team that has played so well. Tankson is a 6-foot-4 small forward who can handle the ball and glide to the bucket. His game has really grown while Waldvogel is a great leader at the point spot and he rarely makes mistakes. Fritz passes well, he can really handle and he's a steady shooter and defender. Both of these players made the all tournament team.
White beat the Wisconsin Playground in the title game and also had a big contribution from Alex Schneider. Alex rebounded well and blocked several shots over the weekend. Two other players made all-tournament and that was Jerome Vaughan of Minneapolis Henry and Max VanOrdstrand of Burnsville. These two were big in the semi-final win as VanOrdstand scored 17 and Vaughan had a team high 18 points.
The Top Panther 17s group lost in the championship over the weekend as DTA beat them 68-59 in the final.
