Players shine at Hoover event
HOOVER, Ala.- Several of the country's top prospects were on display in suburban Birmingham on Thursday evening as the Southeastern Select 7-on-7 tournament kicked off at Hoover High.
One of the big early storylines from the event has to be the play of explosive Class of 2008 wide receiver prospect Julio Jones of Foley (Ala.) High. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder proved difficult to cover for most of the evening as Foley started pool play with three early wins.
Quarterback Rosevelt Byrd showed off a strong arm and another rising junior receiver, Mike Washington, had some very nice moments, but it was clear the potential future five star prospect was in a class of his own.
Jones not only is a big, physical receiver, he's also very fast and quick. He uses that speed and quickness to make short work of defensive backs who attempt to cover him.
