Coach Price promises physical two-a-days
Auburn assistant coach Terry Price is ready to deliver a message to his defensive ends when two-a-days get started in a little more than a week. For the Tigers to compete against the best teams in the SEC, they'll need to be more physical up front and it all starts on the practice field.
"For us to be good on defense we're going to have to play the run better than we did last year," said Price. "We want guys that will be hard-nosed, slip blocks in the tackle box and be physical football players.
"We're going to do a lot of 1-on-1's, a lot of Oklahoma and a lot of drills where we face-up guys and hit them and head-butt them and be as physical as we can be. We're going to do these drills over and over again so guys understand the mentality we want from all of them."
Price will have at least eight defensive ends to work with this fall, making the competition tight for the top positions on the depth chart.
"At the worst-case you want to travel five (defensive ends), but you'd like to have six," said Price. "We're trying to find a minimum of five and a lot of that will be determined in two-a-days. Those guys that play physical and aggressive during two-a-days are going to have a chance to make our travel squad."
