As a Mattes of fact...

IrishIllustrated.com You probably don't know much about Brian Mattes. You might not be aware that he caught 82 passes for more than 1,000 yards during his high school career at tight end, or that he recorded 23 sacks in his final two years at Wyoming Valley West High School in Larksville, Pa., or that he scored more than 1,500 points on the basketball court.
You probably don't know these things because few have written about Brian Mattes in recent years. He was caught behind people such as Dan Stevenson, Mark LeVoir, Ryan Harris, Bob Morton and Dan Santucci.
But Stevenson and LeVoir are gone, and Mattes has, at least for the time being, moved up to the No. 1 right tackle spot for the Irish.
