Five freshman see action
It might not have been the explosive fireworks that everyone expected in finally seeing Texas A&M open with an opponent that everyone knew they would beat, and they did in beating Division I-AA The Citadel, 35-3.
But in the game A&M head coach Dennis Franchione was able to play a lot of his roster, gaining valuable game experience for much of the younger talent on the team.
Among those players were five true freshmen that burned their shirts in the season opener. All five showed sings that will continue to get playing time this season, which is obvious because if they wouldn't they wouldn't have played Saturday.
The most anticipated was easily running back Mike Goodson who showed flashes of an unbelievable playmaker after reeling off A&M's longest run of the day of 25 yards. Goodson, though, does have a few issues to sort out - namely holding onto the football.
