Arizona still among nation's elite

For many years now, Arizona has been considered an elite college basketball program nationally. Head coach Lute Olson established his powerhouse in the desert upon arrival in 1983 and his Wildcat teams have flourished under his direction. Never was Arizona's success more evident than during its 14-year run from 1988-2001, when the Wildcats fielded legitimate Final Four contending teams on an almost annual basis.


That so-called "golden era" has come and gone, however, and the Wildcat program now teeters on the edge of elite status, which belongs only to those few programs that exemplify greatness on a consistent basis.
