Karl Dorrell meets the press - Part I
Every Monday UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell addresses the media and discusses the state of the team. Once again the Bruins lost making it four losses in a row. Cal is a very good football team that has a chance to go places this season. As always there were no excuses coming Dorrell. The following is his opening statement. In part two we will have the question and answer section of the meeting.
"Recapping the game last weekend it was a hard fought game," Dorrell said. "Cal is a pretty good football team. Our players fought pretty hard. Offensively we'll start from that standpoint. We made some good improvement.
"Offensively we put a lot of attention to really getting that side of the ball playing better and I thought overall they played much, much better.
"We were pretty good on third down. We're pretty good and effective in the rushing game.
"Pat (Patrick Cowan) did well. He had times of inconsistency, but he played well overall.
"I was pleased with some critical mistakes early in the game that we were able to overcome. We had two or three holding penalties in our first series that we fought through. We didn't end up with any points on the board because of a missed field goal, but I think our offense really handled that pretty well given those circumstances and they battled through the game playing hard.
"We got behind in the second half. They still wanted to go and keep pressing issue. Their attitude was strong about finishing the game.
"I was pleased that when we had to go to two minute in the beginning of the fourth quarter we had two, two-minute drives that ended up being touchdown scores. So it was a positive step offensively.
"Still we came up short."
