2008 ATH commits to UGA
Georgia picked up commitment number 23 for the class of 2007 on Tuesady and Wednesday they picked up their sixth commitment for the 2008 class. Cartersville (Ga.) Cass athlete Richard Samuel has given Mark Richt and the University of Georgia his verbal commitment.
"Richard has committed to Georgia," said Cass Head Coach Rick Casko. "He has already given Coach Richt a call and he gave him the news."
Coach Richt will be at Cass High School on Thursday.
"Mark is coming out to speak at our banquet tomorrow night and that is why we are making it official now. He has known for a while that Georgia is where he wanted to go, but he thought this would be the perfect time to make it happen."
Samuel chose to stay home and to play for Georgia over three other powerful programs.
"He had offers from Clemson, Tennessee, and Florida too," Coach Casko said. "He chose Georgia over those schools. He was close to getting many more offers as well."
He could play either side of the ball in Athens. He had a very good season as a junior on offense and defense.
"Richard had 1,342-yards on 164-carries and 18 touchdowns rushing this year. He also caught 22 passes for 251-yards and he had a 76-yard touchdown there. At linebacker, he had 66-tackles, 3-sacks, and 12-tackles for loss. He is just an all around athlete."
