Practice Insider: Young DTs stepping up

Just about everywhere you look on defense there are key players sitting out with injuries. The interior of the defensive line is no exception with Paul Griffin (knee), the projected starter at noseguard, and Emmanuel Dunbar (back) sitting out while they recover from surgeries. But outside of Griffin and Dunbar, the remainder of the unit has remained relatively healthy this spring.
With the physical nature of the position, defensive line coach Odell Haggins likes to freely rotate his players in order to keep them fresh. But in order to do that he has to have players he can count on, and preferably ones with some game experience. With the entire unit returning from last season, this could be a rare year when there is both depth and experience at the position.
