Could Newman pull the trigger?
Last weekend Brandon Newman received a rather specific text message.
The correspondence came from Notre Dame defensive coordinator Corwin Brown, but instead of just checking in with the 6-foot-1, 300-pound defensive tackle from Louisville, Ky., the Irish assistant had a specific request.
"He asked what I was doing to make sure I could be a freshman starter against San Diego State on Sept. 6 next year," Newman said. "He told me that it's a family at Notre Dame and to come be a part of that family."
Newman just might when he visits Notre Dame next week to observe spring practice in South Bend. The Pleasure Ridge Park standout plans to arrive on April 10, then spend the following day taking the grand tour of Notre Dame with his parents. His father will drive down from Detroit while his mom will accompany Newman up from Louisville.
Newman wants both parents to be there for what could be an important day.
