Determined to return
During last year's fall camp, true freshman Midland running back Baron Batch was beginning to put pressure on projected starter Shannon Woods. Using his strength to run through a senior-packed defensive line, there were many rumors as to whether or not Batch would be getting equal playing time, if not more, than the more experienced Woods.
It looked like it was going to be a successful first year for Batch, who made a name for himself heading into the opening week of the regular season.
Then, out of nowhere, Batch hit two roadblocks.
The first came the morning of the opening game against SMU. Missing a week of workouts, Batch was back quickly. Then six weeks later, Batch ran into obstacle when he broke his ankle during practice. Even the strong-willed Batch would not bounce back from the season ending injury.
It's been over nine months and Batch is still not back to full health but the up and down experience called his 'freshman year' was one that he took away many lessons from.
