Practice Report: Fall camp rolls on
Young D-linemen getting plenty of work
Despite returning two strong defensive tackles from the spring practice, defensive line coach Bo Davis made sure his sizable group of newcomers saw plenty of action during Monday's practice. Freshmen Alfred McCullough, Josh Chapman, Luther Davis and Jeremy Elder each saw significant reps during defensive line drills alongside redshirt freshman Brian Motley, who started in the spring, and Lorenzo Washington the only returning player with game experience.
Several combinations work at nickel
As Saban and the coaching staff continued to work on fundamental principles, they are also beginning to work on several different personnel combinations in formations like the nickel package. Saban, who primarily coaches the defensive backs during practice, worked Marcus Carter and Rashad Johnson at safety with Simeon Castille at the nickelback spot and Lionel Mitchell at corner. At the other corner spot, both Eric Gray and Kareem Jackson saw time while Justin Woodall worked several snaps in Carter's free safety spot.
