Patton looks to fill void left by Beeler
The ripple effect has started after the official announcement came down last night. Chase Beeler leaves the Sooners staring at the possibility of playing a true freshman behind Jon Cooper at the offensive center position.
Beeler's departure was a surprise to most outside of the OU program. But the player who turned down Stanford's academics to play football in Norman just decided to give up his career as a potential star along the Sooners' offensive line.
"Chase wants to concentrate on his academic interests. He just decided that he did not want to play any more," said Bob Stoops in a statement released on Tuesday night. "We respect his decision. We're all for Chase. He was a good, strong student-athlete while he was with our program and we wish him the best."
On Wednesday, James Patton talked about Beeler's decision to leave and what type of affect it could have on the depth chart at the center position.
"Obviously losing Chase, that was a tough decision and that was a tough decision for the kid. He's got to make those choices and the next guy will step up," said Patton.
