Wednesday practice report
Late Wednesday afternoon, the Duke Blue Devils moved from the camp phase of preseason to the preparation stage. And for the most part, the Blue Devils were locked in on their groundwork for the season opener against UConn.
The team had appeared to be a little on the flat side over the last few days of camp, but today was different in every aspect. The players were very upbeat and attentive as practice went very smoothly.
The staff had the team focused on what to expect from the Huskies and what they must do to stymie the UConn offense and defense. Though preparations did not get into the deep details on day one, the team laid a great foundation for the remaining practices heading up to September 1.
Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis appeared to have his timing back after struggling a bit in Tuesday's scrimmage. Lewis again showed his chemistry with wide receiver Jomar Wright as the two connected for several big plays in 11-on-11 drills and 7-on-7 work. The Blue Devils running game also showed signs of life throughout the day, as Re'quan Boyette, Ronnie Drummer and Justin Boyle carried the ball with a lot of passion.
