Wednesday practice report: Evans settling in
Quarterback Daniel Evans can now let a big breath and get down to the business of guiding the North Carolina State offense and the task of winning games.
Evans doesn't have to worry about if he'll be playing or starting. He doesn't have to worry about being judged against Harrison Beck or Justin Burke.
Evans' focus is now squarely on Central Florida with kickoff at 6 p.m. Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium. The transition from competing for the job to having the job is underway.
"I remember last year when Marcus [Stone] was getting all the No. 1 reps, and I was getting all the No. 2 reps," said Evans after Wednesday's practice. "I wasn't practicing with the No. 1 guys. Now, I have reps under my belt with the guys that I'll be out there playing with."
Evans has been confident yet humble with an aw-shucks demeanor. With Beck a redshirt sophomore and Burke a redshirt freshman, Evans knew if he fell behind either of the younger QBs, it might become permanent the next two years.
