40 Acres Report: The offense
Ground game is a work in progress
The Texas running game might not have been hitting on all cylinders against Arkansas State in the season-opener on Saturday, but Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis isn't ready to push the panic button just yet.
"We didn't play well as five. They all played pretty good, with Dallas (Griffin) playing really good. As a unit, we have to do a better job," Davis said."
One of the things that Davis said the group must improve on is its consistency.
"I didn't like the negative plays," Davis said. "The 24-yard run that was called back for holding and we were. We would have made the run without the hold. (Jamaal Charles) was around Tony's (Hills) guy when he latches on, but it was legitimate. The inconsistencies and the negative plays I didn't like."
Overall Davis sounded like a coach that knows that he has a group that is still a major work in progress.
