Dawkins declares a leader after Byrnes victory
DUNCAN, S.C. - Senior defensive lineman Everett Dawkins rose to the occasion down the stretch to help Duncan (SC) Byrnes extend its home winning streak to 40 games Thursday night. The 6-foot-0, 250-pound three star recruit made three consecutive plays - a tackle, a batted down pass and a tackle for loss - to halt Orlando (FL) Dr. Phillips' last drive to seal a 18-14 victory at Nixon Field in front of a national television audience.
"That's what he supposed to do," Rebels coach Chris Miller said. "We expect him to do that just like we expected that from Stanley (Hunter). Everett's going to make those plays. He's been doubled and tripled most of our games. Tonight there was a little bit of that but I don't think they respected him as much."
