Auburn adapting to the Burns package
It's been quite a while since a run-first quarterback was at the helm of Auburn's offense. Phil Gargis was the last AU quarterback to rush for over 100 yards in a game - in 1976.
But Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium, freshman Kodi Burns, in his first college action, rushed for 87 yards leading AU on its only two scoring drives of the game.
Burns dazzled the crowd with quarterback draws, end arounds and some options thrown in. He even managed to complete 8-of-12 passes.
But according to AU offensive coordinator Al Borges, that wasn't an entirely new offense Burns was running Saturday, just a different twist on the same system he first installed at Auburn back in 2004.
