Was Morelli's performance enough?
When Penn State senior quarterback Anthony Morelli walked off the Beaver Stadium turf early Saturday evening, a roar swept over the students and fans surrounding the south end zone tunnel.
It wasn't the familiar sound of groaning, boos, and curses that Morelli has grown accustomed to.
No, this was the roar of appreciation.
Morelli and the Nittany Lions had just taken the No. 15-ranked Wisconsin Badgers to the woodshed, skinned them, and made a fur coat with the leftovers.
For the first time in Morelli's career as a starting quarterback, the Lions beat a ranked team in the regular season. And, unlike the team's previous four attempts in that span, Morelli and the offense held up their ends of the bargain.
The Lions had 27 first downs, 221 yards rushing, 216 yards passing, and most importantly, 38 points on the scoreboard. The effort was balanced, complete, and maybe most importantly, mistake-free.
