Bzdelik's squad victorious in final tune up
BOULDER, Colo. - Colorado's men's basketball team had their final tune up on Tuesday night in preparation for their season opener against New Mexico.
Led by freshman guard Cory Higgins, who scored 20 points on six-for-eight shooting, the Buffaloes cruised to a 64-42 victory over Regis University.
Regis led the exhibition match, 11-10, midway through the first half, but from there the Buffs took control of the game. CU outscored the Rangers, 31-6, over the course of the next 13 minutes.
Neither team shot well. The Buffs made 42.9 percent of their shots from the field, while Regis knocked down just 35 percent of theirs.
"Tonight's game they played a lot of 1-3-1 zone [and] we haven't worked against a 1-3-1 zone," explained CU head coach Jeff Bzdelik. "We still had opportunities, some good looks, but we didn't finish well and that's a concern. We have to finish when we get to the rim."
