Syracuse once again looked overmatched Saturday as South Florida came to the Carrier Dome and posted a 41-10 blowout.

The honoring of former Orange fullback Larry Csonka during halftime, with the retirement of his number 39 jersey, was probably the highlight of a game in which the Orange never really stood a chance.

After the game, Syracuse coach Greg Robinson harped on three reasons why he thought the Orange were struggling.

He stressed that although the scores might not indicate it yet, he thought the program was headed in the right direction.

Youth

Time and again, Robinson came back to the fact that many of his players were inexperienced and that was hurting the Orange on the field.

"[We're] trying to put the older players that are real players and the younger players that are coming along [together] and you have struggles," Robinson said after Saturday's loss. "The inexperience got to us. I'm not making excuses. I'm telling you what it is."

"There are good football players in here that are working to be outstanding football players and they're going to be, but it's going to take time. Everybody thinks it's presto, but it's not that way."
