Rice ready to make an NFL run
For the first time in history, Rutgers will send a player to the NFL draft after his junior season. Ray Rice will forgo his senior year of eligibility and test out his skills on Sundays. The decision came less than a week after Rice ran for 280 yards and four touchdowns in Rutgers' latest bowl victory.
"I evaluated what was best for me and my family," said Rice. "I'm humbled to say I'm always going to be part of the Scarlet Knight family. I'm truly fortunate to be a Scarlet Knight. As my career goes forward, I'm happy to say I was here."
Although Rice's impending decision seemed to be on the minds of the entire scarlet nation, it was a decision that didn't become final until Tuesday afternoon. Rice talked about the moment when he finally knew he had played his last game as a Scarlet Knight.
"It definitely wasn't after the game. You have to feel it in your heart. After speaking to Coach Schiano and him gathering everything he needed to gather, my heart felt that it was time for me to go to the next level."
