Gardiner weighing options
Tipping the scales at 5'11 and 180 pounds, Desmond Gardiner has the prototypical size that college coaches are looking for in their young defensive backs. Couple in play making ability with the size mentioned above and you have a recipe for success.
Gardiner has all of the tools necessary to succeed and a few noted programs have taken notice. With offers currently in hand from Arizona St,, Arizona, TCU, Texas A&M, Baylor and Arkansas, Gardiner is no longer a secret. Missouri looks to be close to offering as well.
TCU is hoping that their reputation for producing NFL defensive backs is enough to get the attention of this rising star. So, what exactly is Gardiner looking for in a school and do the Horned Frogs appeal to him at all?
"I'm mainly looking for a school that has good academics and that wins on the football field" said Gardiner. "I don't care what conference you play in as long as the academics are there and you win football games, that's all that really matters."
With all of the attention that is coming his way currently, has Gardiner had a chance to sit down and sift through his offers to begin narrowing his list of suitors?
"No, I don't have any favorites or anything like that. I like them all right now, I'm going to take my time and make a good decision."
With offers from schools in the Big 12, the Pac-10 and the SEC, it's obvious that Gardiner's talent runs deep. Does TCU have what it takes to peak his interest?
"Oh yeah, I actually visited up there and really liked it a lot. They have a real nice campus and I really enjoyed my time there. I get letters from TCU probably two or three times a week and I've talked to a couple of the coaches up there, like Coach Jennings and a couple of other ones" said Gardiner.
Although the youngster holds six offers to date, don't expect that number to stay put. With new interest coming in almost daily, Gardiner could be up to double digit offers within the next month or so. Though he has no favorites as of yet, the Port Arthur native will undoubtedly have numerous parties observing his progress in the recruiting game over the next few months.
