Is it Miller time for UGA?
UGA reeled in a full class in 2008, with five players coming to Athens this year. So that should make recruiting for 2009 that much easier, right? Well with limited scholarships, the ships have to be tightened so they can get the particular players they need.
They already have a commitment from combo guard DeMario Mayfield and will hold a spot for top player Derrick Favors, so is there room for anyone else?
Well with a player recently transferring, that answer is yes. And that player could very well be Loganville Christian Academy center Daniel Miller.
In AAU ball every year, players emerge and coaches can see early on who the best players in the country are. Newcomer Miller is 6-foot-10, 240-pounds, so how can someone his size not get noticed?
"This was my first year playing AAU ball," said Miller. "I did not realize how important it was to recruiting. It has really helped me get noticed on a much larger scale."
Playing at a small private school, Miller has not been pushed by the talent he plays during the school year. So how did he fare against premier players?
"It has been going great, playing great players like Kenny Hall (Tennessee Commitment) and countless others have helped me tremendously. I have learned to be more aggressive and it has forced me to become quicker to compete athletically."
The Loganville star also has learned what he needs to work on to succeed at the next level.
"I am already adept at rebounding and blocking shots. Coaches have also told me I show good touch as well. But I know if I am going to play major minutes I need to get a lot stronger to be able to post up on bigger men."
