Greene glad to be back
After needing a year at junior college to improve his academics, Shonn Greene says there was never any doubt that he would make his way back to Iowa. Now, the New Jersey native is happy to be a Hawkeye again. After Saturday's scrimmage, Greene talked about his road back to Iowa, how it feels to wear the Hawkeye uniform again, getting into game shape and losing weight this summer, and much more.
Q: Who was it that helped you get back on the right path?
GREENE: I had a couple people here and there, but it was a me thing. I needed to tell myself that I needed to get back and that I needed to do things the right way.
Q: Did you go to the games last year?
GREENE: I think I went to like two of them.
Q: It looked like kind of a struggle out there today. From your point of view, how do you assess the offense right now?
GREENE: I think we're doing a good job. We've got a good group of guys and we just need to work a little bit harder. We've got a little ways to go, but by the time the season comes I think we're going to be good. We're going to have a football team out there ready to go. It's just a matter of working hard and keep doing it.
Q: One of the biggest questions coming into the season is the running back position. Do you guys hear the question marks about the position and how do you address that?
GREENE: A lot of people that make those comments aren't in practice. I don't think there's a question at running back. We've got a few guys that can get in there and get the job done. I think the whole group is solid. We've got some old guys and we've got some young guys. Together, I think we can get the job done.
Q: How good did it feel to get back in a Hawkeye uniform?
GREENE: Great. I mean this is where I wanted to be. That's why I worked so hard to get back. It's a blessing. It's totally a blessing to be back with the Hawkeyes, so I feel good.
Q: Is it something you appreciate more this time around?
GREENE: Yes, a lot more because you never know, this stuff can be taken away from you like that. It's a privilege to be a Hawkeye.
