Jeff Baca ready to start
Rick Kimbrel
BruinSportsReport.com When offensive tackle Jeff Baca entered the game against the Arizona Wildcats last Saturday, he became one of 11 true freshmen to have played in a game this year. He must of done a pretty good job because on Saturday against Fresno State, Baca will be making his first collegiate start at left tackle. Baca spent a little time with BruinBlitz.com after a recent practice to let us know how he's doing.
BruinBlitz.com: Last year at this time you were suiting up for Mission Viejo, Calif., high school and last weekend you get your first multiple play action for UCLA. Tell us about that experience
Baca: "It was awesome. When I got out there it was like it was meant to be. I just felt so at home out there. UCLA has been my dream school ever since I was little and I'm just so thankful to be here and now that I'm here. I try my best and when my opportunity came, I felt like I took advantage of it really well. I tried my hardest and gave all my effort because I know this is what I wanted and now that I'm in this position, I just have to keep giving this effort that I game when I arrived here.
"I can't now that I'm at this position to slack off, I have to keep my effort and come ready to practice every day and get in my playbook. I'm not doubted as a freshman, nobody is trying to pick up the slack because I am a freshman, I don't want to be that guy.
"I want to be the guy who is a freshman, but nobody looks at him as a freshman. I want to be that type of player."
