Butler's 38 leads WVU in exhibition win
MORGANTOWN--As talk centered on West Virginia University's trio of highly touted freshmen this preseason, forward Da'Sean Butler was spared much of the attention directed at his Mountaineers. But after notching 38 points in an exhibition victory over Mountain State University, Butler may have thrust himself back into the spotlight on a team with big aspirations.
Before an enthusiastic Coliseum crowd on Saturday, the junior finished with 38 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals to lead WVU to a 98-78 victory. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Butler's performance was his outside marksmanship, which appeared much improved from last season. Butler converted on 11 of 21 field goal attempts for the contest, including four of his eight attempts from 3-point range. He would have finished with two more treys had his toe not grazed the arc on a pair of long jumpers.
