LB finally gets first offer
Ryan Murray
CuseConfidential.com Charlotte (NC) Christian outside linebacker Kelby Brown was seeing offers come in for his teammates, but he was not getting any. That has now changed as Syracuse stepped up and offered. CuseConfidential.com caught up with Brown to see what he thinks about his first offer?
Brown, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds was waiting for the offers to come in, so what did he think when he received the Syracuse offer?
"They offered me the Tuesday before last, so I would say about two weeks ago," Brown said. "I was pretty excited because it came out of the blue,. I really had no idea I was getting it. To get your first offer from the Big East is pretty exciting."
The Orange seem to be looking to upgrade their linebackers in the 2010 class as they have already offered more than five linebackers. Brown talked about what Syracuse likes about his play and then he added what he thinks about his own game.
"Well, they said that I fit the description of a tall lean guy that they would want to play the outside linebacker position. They also like how I hit and can drop back in pass coverage," Brown stated. "I am versatile and I have some speed so I can play against a spread offense and I can also take on blockers and things like that."
Will the Charlotte product be visiting the Orange anytime soon?
"I am trying to get up to the Syracuse spring game in April."
Other than Syracuse there are a couple other schools who are starting to take notice of the prospect.
"Duke brought me up for their Junior Day. I also went to Maryland's Junior day. There have been other schools to stop in, but none have offered yet."
When it comes to making a decision Brown's parents are looking for academics, but his grandparents want him to stay in North Carolina and go to an ACC school.
"My parents want me to go to an academics school. My grandparents want me to go to Duke."
The choice however is up to Brown at the end of the day, so when will he make his decision?
"Honestly I would like to make one before the season starts either during the summer or before the school year starts."
On a side note Brown would like to head of to college with a player that he is very familiar with. That one player also shares a Syracuse offer.
"Ty Linton plays on my team and I would not mind playing with him in college. We went on the Duke visit together and we talked about playing together. I think that would be pretty cool."
