Defense forces fumble, wins scrimmage
In Auburn's first scrimmage of the spring, the defense had the ability to score points. And they took advantage of it.
The second-team defense forced a fumble and recovered it on the final play to break a tie and win the scrimmage 45-40.
The scrimmage was closed to the media and details were hard to come by but by putting together bit and pieces from various interviews, it appears safety Drew Cole's hit on running back Onterio McCalebb forced the fumble, which was recovered by defensive end Cameron Henderson.
Defensive coordinator Ted Roof said his emphasis all spring has been on creating turnovers and limiting explosive plays by the offense.
"It was good to win like that," Roof said. "The positives of ending like that are you keep demanding it, preaching it, and it happens and people start believing."
