Doeren after N.C. linebacker
Although it's early in the 2010 recruiting process, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Dave Doeren has been scouring the country in search of elite talent.
With his name already tied to a handful of junior prospects, Doeren has his sights set on a talented linebacker who hails from the state of North Carolina.
Monday night, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with Kelby Brown of Charlotte (N.C.) Christian to discus his latest offer from the Wisconsin Badgers.
"Wisconsin was my fifth offer and definitely my biggest," stated the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder. "The Big Ten and Wisconsin in general, it's a great feeling. Wisconsin is a huge offer for me."
With offers also on the table from Syracuse and Indiana, it's apparent that Duke, Northwestern and Virginia will soon be entering the Kelby Brown sweepstakes in the near future.
"Syracuse was my first offer and Indiana followed after that," Brown explained. "Then Wisconsin came in and that was a big offer. Duke, Northwestern and Virginia are showing a lot of interest and things sound promising for those programs.
"For one, Ty Linton was offered early and that brought a lot of scouts in," he continued. "That helped me get more exposure. Second, it helps my game being able to practice against guys like that everyday. We also have a guy coming in by the name of David Durham, who is committed to Ohio State."
While admittedly impressed with the Badger offer, Brown still has some research to do on the university in general.
"I really don't know much about the school, but I know a lot about the football aspect of the university," he said. "I'm going to be making a trip up north in late June to check out the campus. It's going to be a round trip. I'll be stopping at Wisconsin, Indiana and Northwestern."
As a junior, Brown secured CISAA All-Conference honors after totaling 86 tackles- including 11 for a loss-two sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown. Charlotte Christian also won the NCISAA 11-Man state championship.
Wisconsin currently has two verbals in it's 2010 class: in-state prospects Korad Zagzebski and Marquis Mason.
