Daren Bates was a couple of days late. But he's definitely not coming up short in the competition for a starting job.

The true freshman, who was a late pickup by Auburn out of Olive Branch (Miss.) High School, continues to impress AU's coaching staff. He got reps with the first-team at safety during Saturday's scrimmage and was back with the first-team again Tuesday.
