Practice Notebook: No pads on Wednesday
Texas A&M practiced twice Wednesday with a morning practice on the Coolidge Practice Fields and an afternoon session inside the McFerrin Athletic Center, but this day of two-a-days was different than the rest.
Instead of drilling in full pads in the morning and shells in the afternoon as originally scheduled, the Aggies came out in helmets and shorts in order to give the team a day off from the normal grind of hitting and brutality. It also allowed the Aggies that are injured to get back into drills without any contact.
"I thought it went well. I thought the guys responded to what I asked them to do today pretty well. Nothing's perfect, but I thought they handled themselves pretty good today," Sherman said. "I think as a coach you've got to determined what your teams need at times, and they're pretty banged up and we've been hitting them pretty hard in two-a-days and one-a-days. I think we needed to get some guys out here who are injured who probably couldn't have practiced had we been in pads. Plus we need a dose of work in the next couple days on Thursday and Friday and Saturday that's going to tax them a little bit, so it gave them a chance to regroup a little bit."
The Aggies will get another break Thursday with practice moved to 3:30 p.m. and indoors in the air conditioning of the McFerrin Athletic Center. The move allows A&M to move out of the corps dorms in the morning, in which they've been living for the past week.
