Jumbo ATH making the rounds
York (Pa.) Central York tight end Kyle Baublitz might be better classified as a jumbo athlete, as his rare combination of size, strength and athleticism make him an intriguing prospect that could line up at any number of positions. He now holds five offers and more will undoubtedly be coming later.
At 6-foot-4 and 256-pounds, Baublitz said his best 40-yard dash time is probably around 4.9 seconds.
He now holds offers from Boston College, Clemson, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Stanford, with the most recent coming from the Cardinal on Monday. While most of his focus is on finishing his junior season with a bang, he has managed to make it to a lot of college games in an effort to get a jump start on the recruiting process.
"I've been to games at Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Pitt, West Virginia and Virginia," he said. "I like them all and some others, but I don't have any favorites yet.
"I'm doing well so far this year. We're in the playoffs and have played one game. We had a shaky start last week but we ended up coming back for the victory. Our game Friday is going to be a tough one."
Baublitz said he will likely be recruited as a tight end, though there is a chance some schools may even look at him as a defensive end. That will largely depend on what his frame and speed are like by the time he is ready to enter the college ranks.
Boston College was one of the first schools to offer Baublitz and they have made a good impression so far. Nonetheless, he needs to learn a lot more about the Eagles before he can make a fair assessment.
"Boston College has been sending me a lot of letters and I've been reading them," he said. "I haven't really talked to them much yet. That's mostly because we still have our season and I'm really focusing on that.
"They have nice coaches and a really good staff. The food there is great. I went there over the summer just for a visit and had a good time."
