Shrine Bowl matchup: The QBs
MORE SHRINE BOAL Top performers | Five things to watch | Complete all-star coverage SPARTANBURG, S.C. - OK, so normally QB vs. QB isn't considered a matchup. But in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, it most certainly is. Each day this week, Rivals.com analyst Mike Farrell will look at the players involved in a key matchup for Saturday's Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. Tuesday's matchup: North Carolina QBs vs. South Carolina QBs.
The players:North Carolina quarterbacks: Marquise Williams (Mallard Creek), Vad Lee (Hillside), Channecy Concepcion (Providence) South Carolina quarterbacks: Justin Worley (Northwestern), Everett Golson (Myrtle Beach), DeEdward Burris (Gaffney)
The breakdown:Usually we match up the quarterbacks against the defensive backs, linebackers or even the defensive line, but this time around we're matching them against each other. The key to this game, as with most, is the quarterback play on each side and this is the most talented group in years. Whichever set of signal-callers avoids turnovers, makes plays downfield and is accurate will go a long way toward determining the winner of this game.
So who will be more effective, the North Carolina team led by Marquise Williams and Vad Lee or the South Carolina 1-2 punch of Justin Worley and Everett Golson. Williams and Worley have put up monster stats in high school and during their senior years. Lee and Golson have the ability to make plays with their feet and when things break down. This could come down to how the third quarterback on each squad plays. If looking at the top two on each squad, this appears to be a dead heat with Golson and Williams performing the best so far in practice for their respective squads.
