Perry adds SEC offer
Calvin Perry began his tour of junior days and unofficial visits. With each trip, the Bessemer Academy (Ala.) junior continues to reel in the good news, such was the case this past weekend.Last month
"Everything is going pretty good," said the 6-foot-2 and 210-pound linebacker. "I went to Vanderbilt over the weekend and they offered me a scholarship while I was there. So that was pretty good. I also have offers from Southern Miss and Arkansas State. I think I might go to Ole Miss junior day next month and I am also going to Arkansas State on May 7th."
Perry has also attended junior day at Mississippi State and expects to return to Starkville soon to check out more of the Bulldogs' spring practice. Perry noted that the Bulldogs and another SEC school may be the next programs to offer.
"I am still getting good interest from Mississippi State and Tennessee," said Perry. "I just got through talking with Coach (Geoff) Collins from Mississippi State this weekend. They are looking at me pretty good. With Tennessee, I am talking to them almost every other day, too. So I think those two schools may be the next to offer me.
"I was supposed to go to Mississippi State last weekend but I thought their first spring scrimmage was actually this coming Saturday. They want me to come to their camp and I know I will make that camp. I also want to go back and see more of their spring practice next month."
In 2010, Perry had an impact on both sides of the football at receiver and linebacker. Offensively, he had 51 catches for 719 yards and nine touchdowns and on defense, Perry had 79 tackles with seven sacks and two interceptions.
"Once baseball season ends, we should start up spring practice then," said Perry. "I am not playing baseball but a lot of our linemen do so we wait until they get through before we get started with football.
"I will again be playing on both sides at linebacker and receiver. But colleges are recruiting me mainly as a linebacker or as a safety. This spring is important to all of us cause we want to win state and just get better everyday in practice. I want to help my team get better and take my game to another level."
