May 5, 2011UConn has hosted a number of quarterback prospects in the last couple of months, one of which was Sean Maguire of West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep. UConnReport.com spoke with Maguire last night about his visit to UConn and the overall status of his recruiting process.
Maguire, 6-foot-3 and 200-pounds, has seen increased interest in the last month.
"In the beginning I was mostly talking with schools such as Rutgers, UConn, Boston College, Syracuse and Pitt," said Maguire. "Now more schools have talked to me and expressed more interest, such as Florida State, Miami, Penn State, Wisconsin and Tennessee."
Not only is Maguire receiving more interest from Florida State, he was also offered by the Seminoles during a recent visit to Tallahassee. Maguire has also visited UConn, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Maryland. The strong-armed quarterback was asked about his visit to UConn.
"It went really well," said Maguire. "I enjoyed the practice and how the coaches all treated me. The campus and facilities were also really nice."
The topic of a possible offer also came up during his visit.
"They have already seen me throw and Coach DeLeone said that they're not a big fan of early offers, but that I'm at the top of their list," said Maguire.
With the spring evaluation period currently in high gear, Maguire will have a chance to impress a number of coaches.
"Every school that I have talked to is making a point to see me throw this spring," said Maguire. "Everyone wants to see it in person. Tennessee just came today and Maryland and Wisconsin are coming within the next two weeks."
Maguire discussed what he is hoping to prove to these coaches.
"I want to prove that I'm a D1 quarterback," said Maguire. "Florida State has seen me throw and they thought I was, so I want to prove my arm strength and accuracy is right on for big time D1 football."
While he has already taken a number of visits, Maguire will take a little time before deciding on future visits.
"I want to wait and see what schools come and see me throw and really find out who is the most interested," said Maguire.
With that said, Maguire is not looking to make an early decision.
"I don't plan on making a decision anytime soon," he said. "I want a chance to visit other schools and see how everything plays out."
UConnReport.com will continue to stay in touch with Maguire to see how his recruiting process develops in the coming months.
