Quarter by Quarter Breakdown:
No. 5 FSU vs. ULM
1st Quarter Breakdown:After a pair of rusty offensive possessions to open the game, FSU shook it off with a tidy 39-yard touchdown drive late in the first quarter. The running game hasn't gotten going, however as the Seminoles collected three rushing yards on six carries.
Key Plays:After clear misfires on his first two passes of the game, quarterback EJ Manuel went 3-for-3 for 42 yards on the scoring drive. The third one went to senior receiver Bert Reed, who scampered in on a crossing route from nine yards away.
2nd Quarter Breakdown:
After a long drive the FSU offense had to settle for a 24-yard field goal. Greg Reid broke free for a 30-yard punt return, but Manuel turned the ball over as he tried to force it to Bert Reed. On the ensuing possession Lamrcus Joyner came up with first turnover for the Seminole defense. after the pick EJ Manuel finally connected on a deep ball with Greg Dent for a 50-yard score.
FSU extended the lead to 10-0 with a 24-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins. EJ Manuel atoned for his first pick of the year with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Greg Dent for a 17-0 lead.
3rd Quarter Breakdown:
True freshman running back Devonta Freeman saw the first action of his career in the third quarter. The Miami native rushed for 24 yards on six carries, including a one-yard touchdown run. He also hauled in an eight-yard reception for a first down.
One-yard touchdown run for Freeman put FSU up 24-0. He kept the drive alive as he caught a an eight-yard slant on third and six from the ULM 45 yard line.
4th Quarter Breakdown:
EJ Manuel led his final scoring drive of the day as FSU went 64 yards in 11 plays to set up a 23-yard Dustin Hopkins field goal. Clint Trickett connected with Rashad Greene for a 28-yard score.
