October 8, 2011EVANSTON-Second-half collapses are becoming the norm for Northwestern.
One week after blowing an 18-point third-quarter lead against Illinois, the Wildcats let a 10-point halftime disappear in the final two quarters of a 42-24 loss to No. 12 Michigan.
While Illinois scored with 13 seconds left to beat the Wildcats last week, Michigan put this one away earlier than that after a third-quarter offensive explosion turned a 10-point deficit into an 11-point lead after the first play of the fourth quarter.
How ugly was that 15:05 span for Northwestern? Michigan outgained them 207-17, outscored them 21-0 and held the ball for 12:33. By the time the smoke cleared, Michigan was well on its way to its sixth straight win.
And that came after Northwestern racked up 297 yards and 24 points in the first half to take a 24-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
